Passing Through Buffalo – A Guide to an Evening in Western N.Y.’s Wing Town

Passing Through Buffalo – A Guide to an Evening in Western N.Y.’s Wing Town

We’ve decided to go for a road trip. We’re going to be gone awhile and there will be multiple climates to endure. We will be intermittently staying with relatives and camping. I’ve decided to write about the places we experience along the way, it will be a fun ride!
For the first leg of the trip we visited my Grandparents for a night which was wonderful. Then stopped to see my Dad for a nice home cooked lunch. We are headed to Ohio but wanted a halfway point, which is when we decided on Buffalo. We both wanted to see Niagara Falls and eat some famous Buffalo Wings.
We booked an Air B&B which ended up being cozy and wonderful in Allentown, right near downtown Buffalo. There were plenty of walkable bars and restaurants nearby, the apartment was cheap ($60 per night!) and the host, Marshall, was really great. The place had everything we needed.
Our first stop was to Gabriels Gate which is known for wings. It was 8PM and the place was packed. And smelled wonderful. Inside and out. We were quoted 30 mins wait but they’re open until 1, so we went to grab beers instead.
Buffalo is known for its beer scene and our first experience made this clear. We stopped into a cool looking spot called Allen Street Hardware Cafe. The beer list was awesome, filled with the best bottles from all over the US and other countries. This list inspired me to download the “Untapped” app which allows you to track different brews you’ve tried and make a wish list. Two went on my new wish list last night.
After beers we went across the street to Nietzsches for live music (Magpie, @magpietheband) and a couple brews. Band was great, ambiance was even better. Well set stage in between two raised seating areas and a dance floor down below. We enjoyed it.
Getting hungry we headed back to Gabriels Gate to get those wings. They were awesome. BBQ and hot never fail. The oregano were a bit dry, should’ve tried Cajun, add to list for future šŸ™‚
We’re on a semi-strict budget for this trip so we hopped home after Gabriels, but the bars are open til 4AM in Buffalo so you can party as long as you please. This was our date night/ trip send off so we treated ourselves. From now on it’s happy hours and app deals for us, also camp food! šŸŒ²
This morning we went to Niagara Falls. A must see. One of the world’s wonders. Only added an hour to our trip and was totally worth it. It snowed the whole way there and was a cloudy view, but I still was tearing up. How powerful the water is and the mass of it is almost other-worldly. There’s nothing to compare.
Hopefully this little guide gives you some insight on Buffalo, please share your photographs and successes (or fails:p) with me when you go! Life’s an adventure my friends.
Hugs and Backpacks,

BB.
